Case Study 2
Imagine if a new land was discovered and you were part of the first wave of settlers. It would be a chance to start all over again. How would you set up your society? What would you change?
Case Study explores ideas about how a society is created. Six artists will migrate to Cockatoo Island for The Lab and Festival. Witness their process of creating a new society as they attempt to inhabit the island for 16 days, only bringing with them what can be carried in suitcases.
The project explores ideas of colonialism, migration and colonisation, utopianism, as well as discussing Australia’s own response to migration, refugees, population growth, Australia’s Indigenous histories and the way white settlement and Aboriginal people have interacted.
The artists and creative professionals behind this project have never worked together before. Come and see how they cope!
You can get involved! Case Study need to arrange trade routes with the mainland – if you’re coming out to the island, they may wish to commission you to bring something for them – supplies or materials. Follow their requests on Twitter by searching for hashtag #CS2000
Artists: Perran Costi, Jesse Cox, Emily McDaniel, Adam Parsons, Damian Martin, Justin Harvey
