About Underbelly Arts

Underbelly Arts brings together up to 150 of Sydney’s brightest theatre-makers, film-makers, musicians, installation artists, puppeteers, sound artists, publishers and aerialists together to develop new work. It is a ten-day artist residency (The Lab) which has free daily public tours and a festival finale (The Festival), a ticketed event inviting you to an exhibition and celebration of the work developed throughout the Lab.

Conceived in 2007, Underbelly Arts is a social experiment which asks the question, what would happen if you brought up to 150 artists together under the one roof for ten days to develop new work. What would happen if you then opened this process to the public, allowing them behind the scenes of art in the making?

Projects developed in previous years have gone on to feature at events and programs around Australia including Melbourne Fringe Festival, LiveWorks, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe and Next Wave Festival.

Underbelly Arts is produced by Rinse Out Inc, an exciting young not for profit arts organisation dedicated to supporting the next generation of artists in Australia. Want to help? Make a tax deductible donation here.
